For more than ten years now Fandor, alias Laurent Barnaud, has been composing pop songs, sometimes melancholy, sometimes naive, but always melodious and tinged with biting irony. Instantly catchy songs, always in French, where the drum machine jostles with more classical arrangements (guitar-bass-keyboards) to spicy effect.

Because Fandor have dared to stir both the folk of Jean-Louis Murat and the new-wave of New Order or Taxi Girl into their large & roomy cauldron. It's an ambitious gambit and a successful one, as their last album to date, l'Enfance de l'Art, neatly proves.

Fandor is from Bordeaux, one of France's pop bastions, home to the splendid labels Talitres & Alienor among others. A third intrepid local label has taken Fandor's records on: Z&Zoé Records, also home to Bordeaux's Kim. An indie label that allows Fandor the freedom to put together their electro-pop vignettes for our listening pleasure.

In our memories of youth, Fandor was the daring journalist ceaselessly tailing Fantomas, dangerous criminal. He was constantly in disguise.

Our Fandor has no need of such devices, to dissemble himself to achieve his ends. His direct pop touches us straight off the bat.
